New 2017 Jeep Compass at Holden Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram for Dover, DE
The 2017 model year saw a complete redesign for the Jeep Compass. It keeps its Jeep stylings as well as its position as a cost-efficient crossover SUV but brings in its own touches of style along with equipment to perfect its performance and augment its off-roading prowess. It has something for everyone, maintaining a rugged Jeep foundation with a new-school attitude. There was a different Jeep Compass released earlier in the 2017 model year that more truly resembled the Jeep Compass of previous years. For the sake of clarity, this review will focus on the newer, redesigned version of the Compass.
Under the Compass's Hood
The Jeep Compass has had a head-to-toe redesign for the 2017 model year. The Compass is always powered by the 2.4-liter Tigershark engine which is rated for 180 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque. This can come paired with one of three available transmission options. The transmission that comes with the engine is largely determined by the drivetrain the vehicle is equipped with. Starting things off, the standard front-wheel-drive comes equipped with a six-speed automatic transmission. The extra traction offered by a four-wheel-drive system isn't the only benefit; four-wheel-drive comes with a class-exclusive nine-speed automatic. The last option is a six-speed manual which is available with either system. The Jeep Compass has an on-road vehicle sensibility with the impressive off-road capabilities that Jeep is known for. This impressive penchant for off-roading is attributed in part to the available four-wheel-drive systems. One unique aspect of these systems is that both come with the ability to apply all of the available torque to any specific wheel depending on the situation. This off-road capability is further enhanced by the Trailhawk trim level.
Design of Jeep Compass
The Jeep Compass offers a new and refreshing mix of old-school Jeep stylings and flourishes of its own unique persona. The interior is well-equipped with either a 3.5- or 7-inch LED information display while a number of controls are built right into the steering wheel for easy access. This includes speed, voice, and audio controls. The exterior is stylish and keeps many of Jeep's signature features like the seven-slot grille.
